The books Third Wave by Alvin Toffler and Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila by Pirsig pointed me in the direction I already suspected, but could not put into words at that time. Employed at Berenschot, I came in contact with different cultures and translated those experiences into models and advice to improve the quality of organizations. The development of the European Business Excellence / EFQM model and participating in the creation of the Dutch institute for quality (INK) and its model, have given me the opportunity to express and spread the idea of a balanced interest of stakeholders - including the company but also oneself.
In my dissertation Organization Dynamics and Rhythm I made the Four Phase Model plausible. In this model I show that if there is a real desire for continuity, then there are more issues than just the money. Developing the Intellectual and Socialization ability and the realization of your Social Mission capability are as important if not more essential.
Research Missions - sponsored by the European Commission - taught me even more that to "take responsibility for the communal area" is the only way to realize an acceptable community in a world that can be transferred in confidence and good conscience to next generations.
